I've recently given up on getting my father's Ricoh XR-P working again. He came across it when cleaning the house, and gave it to me as he doesn't want it any more. When I received it, I began cleaning and fixing it up, hoping to use it to complement or replace my K1000SE. After fixing the mirror issue (well known problem where the adhesive gives up and the mirror slides down a bit), I went to load some film into it and found that while the winder makes a noise like it's advancing film, it doesn't actually advance the film at all, making it rather useless as a camera. While it is a nice paperweight, it's also a large paperweight and is currently taking up more space than I'd like a non-working camera to take up.
I would feel bad dropping it off at my local Goodwill or Re-Store since it doesn't work, and might never work, but don't really want to deal with selling it on eBay for parts, since it's probably only worth $15-20 at most.
I was told he didn't care what I did with it, as long as it didn't stay around his house, so there's that.

Ricoh, my company. Are there any camera stores there that sell used stuff? They may take it off your hands

Just keep it on a shelf for posterity. It's got a story to it. I have a few old family members' cameras as a kind of museum.

That's a good point. I'll have to check them out, though I'm not sure they'll want to bother with it.

Very true, still maybe be better than donating it.

I would suggest unloading on ebay if your local store doesn't want it. Someone may want to pick it up for parts or to repair.

ebay can be useful for stuff like this, and a lot less weird than craigslist.
You can post it in the classifieds on APUG (apug.org) as a parts camera, but you need to be a member. Unless you want to put it in the "all proceeds to APUG" section, where you donate them the sale money, in which case it's free.

I'm using my dad's old AE-1 as a sort of nostalgia trip! If any of my cameras ever die and it's not worth the cost to fix, they'll be right up on a shelf like you said.
